Recycled - Rehashed Iconography on Recycled Materials by Damian Brewer
Hooker KellySydney born, Melbourne raised. Brewer started early, training in street art and hooliganism at an early age before specialising in photography. VCA tried to teach him a thing or two, but Brewer couldn't wait for the punch line (degree) and went straight for the heady world of fashion photography. Starting out as a studio assistant, Brewer escalated quickly, running his own darkrooms and shooting covers with young starlets, and major campaigns for labels such as PERVERT. More about Damian on our website...

Brewer brings all his influences (fine art, street art and photography) to bear in a stunning series featuring our most iconic outlaw Ned Kelly,  reinvented for a new age. Sidney Nolan first painted the Kelly series as a response to the depression, intending to give people something positive and hopeful to focus on. The synchronicity is not lost on us!

The outlaw hero has always been at the heart of our nostalgic view of ourselves as Australians and battlers. Ned rises again as new challenges await us, and contemporary art gets to do what it does best, reflect, comment and record the global zeitgeist. Personal, political and irreverent, we encourage you come down and check it out. The central work  "Hooker Kelly" a  2m x 2m oil and aerosol canvas, that began life as a fashion advertisement, has certainly caught the attention of our neighbours. We can tell by the extra  nose prints on the windows in the mornings.

Home Grown Talent- Dizzy Dawn
Ruby NeckShe's been around & there's nothing Dizzy about her funky sensibility; finely honed by a broad range of influences & experiences. From the heady days of hairdressing in 80's Brisbane to down town London, Dizzy Dawn has always been at the epicentre of cool. With a passion for fashion, our retro queen was there when beads & their related shops burst on to the scene. It was here she joined forces with a host of crafty women who showed her the ropes, knots & twists of beading & a host of other old skool crafts awaiting reinvention.

Too Cool for You!
YoungEveYou may have seen in the last edition of The Weekender an article about brooches for men. "Brooches for men!" Yep, that's what all the funky young things in Brisbane and further south are sporting. We've been working with local superstar YOUNGEVE to develop this range. YoungEve is now stocked in groovy stores up and down the eastern sea board. Black acrylic guitarists, surfers and devils are subtle and smart on a black shirt, or get earthy with a range of wooden frogs and dinosaurs. A bargain at $28 a pop.

The market research on the range has all been very positive, but we're been struggling with what to call them.  Here's a few suggestions from us, but we're keen to hear what you think.

Email us your suggestions (info@cultureshopgallery.com.au)
and we'll send the best entry a:
Man Brooch/ BRO-Och/ Pec Pin of your very own.

so, what else is new?

More Brewer
Brewer stencilProlific is not the word for this young man, whose muse drives him through the night. Brewer is dropping in the freshest and best on a weekly basis, daily if we'd let him!

Quick response works featuring some of his most popular photography and stencil pieces are easy on the hip pocket, and easy to frame up yourself. They're walking out the door, they're paying his rent...
