More Human than Human
Nipples on a stickRarely exhibited works by contemporary local artists exploring sexulaity, technology and censorship. Until 4th October.

Man's relationship with synthetic woman has continued through the ages. From Frankenstein to Cherry 2000, humans have always created "things" for our pleasure. The pursuit of happiness is hard wired into our brains. Where the acceptable pursuit of pleasure begins, and perversity ends, has always been contentious. The new century has only complicated matters, as simple toys take on exciting new capabilities.

There are some very talented deviants in our midst, even here on the wholesome Sunshine Coast. Clever, curious and humorous deviants whose works appear in private collections all over the world, but have never exhibited in their own backyards. Revel in the perfection of the original empty vessel, woman, abstracted for your enjoyment by the ceramicist known only as Sexpots.  More Human Than Human features painting and sculptural works by  Sexpots, Edward Dregg, Nici Wright, Bronwyn Lloyd and Maxine Stibbe.

Please Note: Sections of the space have been screened for your moral convenience. Not recommended for children or childish folk...

Flying flappers
Flying FlappersAt the more  affordable end of the spectrum we have another special Sexpots souvenir from the current exhibition. Many of you will have grown up with the classic set of three flying ducks on the wall. Update your ducks, and give flying south for the winter a whole new meaning with these ceramic Flying Flappers (pictured $45 each).

Sexpots  specialises in creating customised ceramics.  Matching urns may not be high on everyone's list for Christmas, but SEXPOTS provides dramatic hand made vessels for precious cargo, worthy of being honoured in this way. Get your gran out of the shoe box and in to a SEXPOT.

so, what else is new?

Hamb
Hamb TshirtsSpring is sprung and Melbourne label HAMB is in the air. New season tees are now in-store, featuring perennial favourite Snippy the Sausage Dog, and new pals the Under-Bite Shark, and Ratty Skeleton in the men's range, and a very cute bird in a nest, and scratchy daffodil for the ladies. The shirts standard tee and 3/4 sleeve boatnecks are of the highest quality, holding their shape and colour, wash after wash.

Hamb is the brain child of graphic designer and  contemporary photography pin up boy Simon Obarzanek. Simon's unnerving conceptual photographic works are currently featured at the Shanghai Biennale.  Or you can find out more about him in this month's edition of Art world.

Telephone wire brooches
Telephone wire broochesTelephone wire brooches are very typical of South African contemporary craft.  These striking brooches are decorated with multi-strands of recycled telephone wire. They are handcrafted in Zululand and each is completely unique in colour and design.

These pieces come directly from the makers to a small firm in Melbourne, ensuring that the product is responsibly produced. In sourcing products from South and West Africa, they patronise organisations and small businesses, which have increased self-sufficiency through educational, charitable and employment projects for disadvantaged community groups. Available in a range of styles and colours starting at $39.50.

Coming Soon- Very soon
Ann O'ConnorWe are pleased to add a new art jeweller into the fold. Ann O'Connor is a trained silver smith and ceramic artist who's been practising and exhibiting continuously all over Australia since 1975. Setting up her studio just outside of Brisbane in 1993 with her husband, fellow sculptor and raku artist Gerry O'Connor, they have been practising their art full time ever since. Ann draws inspiration from nature, literature and her own sense of joy, producing distinctive pieces that I can only describe as mature, modern and extremely funky.

Favourite In-store Oddity
Our favourite artistic oddity at the moment is Edward Gorey's cardboard Dracula Theatre. His Edwardian style pen and ink drawings, odd tales and dark yet humorous images are brought to life in this 3d adventure. A fully illustrated card board theatre with  cast, props and set changes, based on his sell out Broadway season of Dracula. All you need is a roll of sticky tape and some funny voices...
